The ss, also known as Schutzstaffel means “ Protection Squad” or “ defense corps.” It was a paramilitary organization under Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party to ensure their protection. It was formed at the beginning of 1920 as a small permanent guard unit. But from 1929  1945 it grew to become one of the strongest forces in the Third Reich. They were responsible for many of the crimes committed against humanity during World War 2.

The Enabling Act was passed on the 23rd of March, 1933. The formal title for this act was ‘Law to Remedy the Distress of People and Reich.’ The enabling act allowed the Chancellor of Germany, Adolf Hitler to pass laws without the involvement of the German Parliament. This was treated equal to the bible of the Nazis. This was an autobiographical manifesto by Adolf Hitler which highlighted his political ideologies and future plans for Germany. After Hitler came to power, it was a must to buy this book making Hitler extremely rich. The publication of this book was banned in Germany after World War 2.

The Nazis started Anti-Jewish riots that took place from November 9 – 10 1938. The Nazis targeted Jewish communities of Germany, Austria and the Sudetenland. This was known was Kristallnacht or The night of broken glass. The Night o broken glass name came from the shattered glass found on the streets from ransacked Jewish stores, community centers, homes etc. Rioters looted 8000 Jewish stores and killed 91 Jewish people, while also damaging many Jewish cemeteries, hospitals, schools, and homes as the police stood aside.
