The documentary is about the erroneous incarceration and outcast of Amanda Knox, an American exchange student in Perugia. She is blamed for the murder of another exchange student named Meredith. Finding the door to Meredith's room locked after noticing blood splatters in the bathroom, Amanda gets her boyfriend to contact the police, who come and investigate. They find Meredith dead with her throat slashed. It is noted that Amanda breaks down several times throughout the documentary. The first time it is noted is when the police were opening draws asking if utensil was missing, in order to find the murder weapon, the gravity of the situation sets in and she becomes "hysterical". This makes the lead prosecutor Giuliano Mignini start to suspect Amanda. In questioning both Amanda and her Boyfriend, Raffaele, lie. Amanda's lie was an accident caused by her strong imagination and forceful interrogation by the Italian police. She blames Patrick, her boss. Her boyfriend lies about the time they met that night. Lots of panning shots with dramatic classical music thrown about. It would be easy to make the documentary more factual and frank. But that really isn't what a normal watcher wants. They don't want to learn the specifics, they want to be entertained, to grow a curiosity and then to quench it, to be invested. People are more attracted to opinions, "hot takes" "unpopular opinions". No one wants to read the sciency report as to why some beauty product works a certain way, they just want to hear reinforcing anecdotes. Having been born in 2004, and not really all that interested in what the news says daily, I never heard of this until it was assigned to me. That is probably why I can hold an uncaring opinion on the matter. My thoughts were not brought up with bias, they were brought up with hindsight and the facts spread before
