Childhood stories come from everywhere and date back many years. Most fairy tales are stories that rely on magic or having a belief in something to develop a story or lesson. In the book “Grimm” we discover that some of the stories do not always have a “live happily ever after” ending. The stories were made to teach kids the negative effects of some actions and to keep them from getting hurt. The authors of Grimm fairy tales made the stories filled with blood and horror. “The Genie in the Glass” and “The Wild Man” are two stories found in Grimm that are very similar and very different with the characters, plot, and the ending of the story.
The characters in the two Grimm stories have similarities and differences. In the story “The Genie in the Glass” the family, a father, and his son, are just regular people who do not have a lot of money. In the story “The Wild Man” the boy came from a king, the wild man was a king with a curse on him, and the girl the boy married came from another kingdom. The plot contains an “evil” character that eventually changes because of one person, and the characters that change the villain have a good fortune. In the story “The Genie in the Bottle” the genie tricks the young man to let him out of the bottle. When he is released, he tries to break the boy’s neck, so the young man tricks the genie into going back into the bottle. After further persuasion, the genie is released and the young man is rewarded. In the story “The Wild Man” the wild man tricks the little boy into helping him escape. He takes the boy with him because he knew the boy would be punished for releasing him. The wild man helps the boy for many years until the boy becomes king and the curse is lifted off the wild man.
