Many movies have been made on books, but they are not always alike. As readers become more aware of what is happening in the book, they start to understand the general idea of the book. The book, The Giver, written by Lois Lowery and the movie, The Giver, produced by Nikki Silver have few similarities compared to their vast differences. The differences are especially evident in Jonas, Fiona, and Asher throughout the book and the movie. Instead of Jonas and The Giver’s light eyes indicating that they can see beyond and hear beyond, the small birth mark on the wrist indicates that Jonas and The Giver have that ability. “It was the first thing Jonas noticed as he looked at the new child peeving up curiously from the basket. If Fiona was to have the same job at the house of the old, then the whole movie would have to change because Fiona would not be able to help Jonas escape with Gabriel to keep him from the release at the nurturing center. In the movie when Fiona and Jonas kissed, Fiona had felt nothing like it before. Since Fiona had not taken her daily injections for the past few days Jonas had been teaching Fiona how to feel. During the end of the movie when the Chief elder realized that the receiver of memories (Jonas) was missing, they figured out that Fiona and Jonas hadn’t been taking their daily injections for the past few weeks. The Chief Elder realized that Fiona had felt too much, so they were about to release her…then a few moments before Fiona was released Jonas passed the memory line, then all of the memories were returned to all of the people in the community.
