James A. Garfield The 20th president was James A. Garfield. In 1862 James joins the army and led Brigade at middle Creek; against Confederate troops (Freidel). At the age of 31 Garfield worked so hard that he became the brigadier general about two years later he became major general of volunteers. In 1862 James made another big step he got elected for congress (freidel). As James was working with the congress he was very close friends with Abraham Lincoln and as they had long conversations Lincoln persuaded him to resign his commission (Freidel).
The Jacksonian ERA After losing the election of 1824 to president John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson returned in the next election of 1828. Jackson defeated Adams and became the seventh president of the United States. Andrew Jackson gained popularity from his role in the war of 1812. He quickly became a leader in the new Democratic Party. During his presidency he supported slavery and states’ rights.
The Development of America from 1877 to Present Day In 1877, after the Civil War, everyday life consisted of the standard of living going up, people’s income going up, and the cost of living going up at a faster rate than the rest. During this time, many cultural developments took place such as mass transportation. The South had to almost completely reconstruct itself while over 21.5 million immigrants migrated to America. From 1877 to present day, the development of industrialization, expansionism, progressivism, isolationism, and globalization all took place in America, however, each of them took place under different circumstances and different time periods.

The “Gilded Age” was named by Mark Twain in 1873 and was a period of transformation in the economy, government, technology, and social customs of the U.S. The transformation lead to a more modern society which was once small regional communities. Congress continued to reform the west which meant redistributing land that was owned by Indians. This caused great conflict that involved many wars.

The Jazz Age was a term used by F. Scott Fitzgerald to refer to the 1920s, but it was also a cultural movement that took place in America during this decade. The well-known myth of Gilgamesh has been cited in many sources as one of the first stories in our recorded human history originating from Mesopotamia, Iraq today, though some maintain it was not just a fairytale but was based on some elements of truth. A hero was a figure in a literature who went beyond the human’s limitation. Among countless heroic literature that were published, The Epic of Gilgamesh was the first Western Literature that portrayed an epic hero. Since the epic was written between 2150 and 1400 BCE, Gilgamesh was the Western Literature’s first known hero. Although each hero had similar characteristics, each hero had different situations and personalities, which led to different heroic archetypes. Depending on each situation and journey, the hero had different roles in literature such as either an epic hero or a tragic hero.
The Epic of Gilgamesh is the oldest story known to mankind, being written on Sumerian clay almost five thousand years ago (Garone). Since the story was originally known orally, the culture and themes from The Epic of Gilgamesh must have existed long before it was finally inscribed (Mark 4). Having known this, the cultures and themes can be compared to today’s society, discovering about how they have shifted and evolved, and also observe how they are similar. The ancient days of Gilgamesh has brought culture that has greatly influenced today’s society. Because Gilgamesh was set around the time of late Babylonian or early Sumerian society, the Babylonian and Sumerian cultures also play a role in shaping the world into what is is today (Mark).
A golden age is a period of time when an empire thrives. It thrives socially, economically, and politically. Both Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome experienced a golden age. Ancient Rome’s Golden Age was called the Pax Romana. Pax Romana means “roman peace”.
