The Grapes of Wrath tells a story of a family migrating from Oklahoma to California because of the Dust Bowl. The Joads’ house is taken away by the bank, leaving them nowhere to go. They follow the route 66 to the state of California to seek out new opportunity. The story of migration does not only exist in the history. In March 2011, about 11 million Syrians left their homes due to the civil war in their nation. The refugees risk the journey to the neighboring countries, knowing that they would not be granted residency. The residents of cities in northern Aleppo, Idlib and Latakia have relatively easy access to Turkey, while the journey for those who live in the country’s center or south is more dangerous. Syrians traveling out of Damascus must cross dozens of active battle lines and navigate hundreds of government and armed opposition checkpoints before they reach the Turkish border, which is one of the havens for the refugees. Besides the daily costs, some need more money in case they are wanted by the Syrian Government to pay at government checkpoints. Syrian refugees are taken in by some countries. Germany has granted asylum to 40,000 refugees, and Sweden has 30,000. Italy accepted another 21,000. On the other hand, these refugees are not welcomed in other European countries.
