This love is displayed in Jay Gatsby, the main character of the book, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, The Great Gatsby, the story exposes and describes the complexity, corruption, and lies of New York’s wealthiest, but fixated on one man, Jay Gatsby himself. The story revolves around many different and unique characters. One of these characters is the narrator, Nick Carraway. The main motivation for the story is about the mysterious Jay Gatsby and his pursuit of his old old love, Daisy Buchannan. In the end, Gatsby is murdered by George Wilson who thought Gatsby killed his wife Myrtle.
The Great Gatsby is about an usual millionaire named Jay Gatsby as told by Nick Carraway. Gatsby was neighbor to Nick who lived in a modest house while Gatsby owned a stunning mansion where he frequently held renowned elaborate parties. Soon, Nick found out that Gatsby is in love with Daisy Buchanan, the wife of Tom Buchanan and cousin of Nick. Tom takes his old friend for a day in the city, where Nick learns that Tom had an affair with a woman named Myrtle who was wife of a mechanic in Long Island. Gatsby told a mutual friend of him and Nick that Nick needed to arrange a “chance” meeting for Gatsby and Daisy.
On the way home from the hotel, Daisy, driving Gatsby's car, hits Tom's mistress, Myrtle. Gatsby says he'll take the blame for the death of Myrtle, therefore Daisy doesn't have to be arrested. Tom finds out and tells George Wilson, the husband of Myrtle. Enraged with the death of his wife, George shoots Gatsby in the pool. In the next chapter, Tom tells Nick one day passing by, "'That fellow had it coming to him.
Nick was the man who helped out Gatsby arrange him to reunite with Daisy in chapter 5 and had to deal with all of the drama throughout Tom and Gatsby during his summer in East Egg and West Egg. Daisy is shown to be dependent on love. During the course of the novel, she went from Gatsby, to tom, back to Gatsby, and back to Tom. “I did love him once-but I loved you too.” (Fitzgerald 132) Contrary to what others may believe, Jordan is the exact opposite of the typical 1920’s woman.

The novel which was released in 1925 tells the story of young and mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and his desperate love for Daisy Buchanan. As told by Bob Batchelor author of Gatsby The Cultural History of the Great American Novel “The central themes and ideas emerging from the book ranging from the fulfillment of the American Dream” (Batchelor 1).
