6 March 2023 The Hero’s Journey of Chris Kyle Many people throughout history have shown impeccable characteristics of what it means to be a hero. With the copious amount of research obtained, Chris Kyle is a prime example of what being a hero should look like. He has faced and overcome many challenges in his life and has received plenty of recognition for his hard work. Through his perseverance, he was able to make a difference and help other people with their challenges and protect American citizens with his superlative shooting skills. Kyle has faced many challenges, a prime example would be when he was in Iraq and killed a boy's mother because she was holding a grenade. He had to take the shot or more people would have been killed, causing a greater consequence. Internal challenges are just as great as external challenges. Kyle suffered from PTSD and other internal obstacles after retiring from the Navy. He used alcohol and medication to try to contain his pent-up struggles and relieve himself of worry (Fraga). Being in the military can cause a lot of stress and anxiety, and this makes it very hard to transition back into civilization. Kyle, without a doubt, exceeds their characteristics in many ways. Even with his struggles, he was able to help so many people during his final years. He was very brave for going into battle and trying to save people while risking his life. He had an abundant amount of determination because even when he was dealing with his issues, he still persevered and was determined to help people. A lesson that can be learned is to not give up, even if the experience of failure seems too great. Even when he was knocked down and couldn’t continue his career in bull riding, he found an even more endearing solution. Another lesson that could be learned is to make every moment count. No one knows when it will be their last day to live, Kyle certainly didn’t. Every day should be spent wisely. He had a lot of courage to willingly go and defend his country.
