Economy plays such a big role in our everyday lives, that half the time we don 't even notice it. Economy is more than an exchange of money, or buying a house, economy is in everything we do. It is the stores that we shop in, it is the jobs that we work, it is the poverty that people face. Economy is everywhere, you just don 't always see it. One of perhaps the biggest, and most well known ways that we see economy in our lives, is the stores that we shop in. These stores are often thought of as a place for the transaction of goods, however, they can also provide a person with hours of entertainment. We work for enjoyment, but mostly for money, which is possibly what economy is most well known for. Often times, if you are hard on cash, you will pick up extra shifts to supplement the lack luster salary, however, that can have serious detriments on your well being. The more you work, the fewer leisure hours you have, and allowing yourself leisure hours in your day to decompress and recharge is extremely important, otherwise you would be a human robot, just going through the motions, but not experiencing any of it. Barbara Ehrenreich went undercover at a dive restaurant named Jerry´s to experience this for herself. After working there for a few months, she discovered that, although she was working nonstop, she could barely afford to pay her rent, ¨So I take the $500 deposit I have coming from my landlord, the $400 I have earned toward the next month 's rent, plus the $200 reserved for emergencies, and use the $1,100 to pay the rent and deposit on trailer number 46 in the Overseas Trailer Park,¨ (Ehrenreich, page 400). Ehrenreich worked constantly to be able to afford rent at the town 's most rundown, dangerous trailer park, but it hardly mattered, as she would never spend time there. Instead, her time would be spent working in order to afford a trailer she would rarely occupy.
