Dr. Daniel Gould, director of the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports, in his essay “Are High School Sports Good For Kids?” argues that problems with high school sports are beginning to outway the benefits.. He supports his claim by providing evidence of how sports are beneficial to kids, explaining the problems within sports, and extending the importance of what creates a positive response from sports. Gould’s purpose is to inform coaches, principals, and parents about what makes sports beneficial and how to prevent the problems in order to allow kids to learn and become better citizens. He establishes an informative tone for coaches, principals, and parents.
Parents and schools need to realize what is actually happening in the gym and why it needs to be cut or changed. The paragraphs below are here to explain that. In this community lately, there has been discussion lately on sports possibly being removed from the high schools. Although, they get the most recognition that does not mean that just because one little thing it gets removed and completely forgotten about. In fact, so many people do high school sports in the text “Are High School Sports Good For Kids” it explicitly states “Here in Michigan almost 300,000 young people take part in high school sports every year.” This scene particularly shows that many youth athletes participate in high school sports in only one state alone.
Imagine if a high school abolished all cutting deriving out of competitive sports in order to protect various student’s self-esteem. All you would need to do in order to play on a team would be to sign up. Each student would have equal playing time because everyone is equal to each other. This high school would end up doing terrible in all of their sports, due to the fact that many would do it in order to try something new, many would not take the sport seriously, and these inexperienced students will always be up against the best students from other high schools, who could easily hurt inexperienced players. This is, without a doubt, a possible outcome of not cutting from sports teams.
High School Sports Should be Funded Every year 300,000 students are participating in sports (Gould 1). The School District has been funding the athletics program, which has been benefiting many of the students’ lives for several years. The discontinuation of high school sports will cause many students to loose the health, social and educational benefits provided by participating in athletics. The School District should continue to fund sports because they benefit students.
Frances is a field hockey player for her school team. One day, she got her report card and saw she got a C+ in Spanish. The next day at practice, her coach told her she was off the team--Even though Frances had been trying her best in Spanish. Frances thought this was unfair and ceased putting effort into Spanish. This is an example of how a child could be negatively by the No Pass, No Play rule.

That’s why it is important than ever for schools to invest in their athletic programs,” states the sports article “Should Schools get rid of Sports.” Schools should keep their sports programs because they help improve academics, help improve mental and emotional health, and improves social skills like being on a team. Schools should not get rid of their sports programs because they help with student’s academics.
The idea of extreme sports has changed drastically over the years, going from skateboarding in the streets to jumping out of planes with nothing but a parachute to soften your landing. These extreme sports have many advantages for kids who participate in it such as health benefits, psychological benefits, and opportunities to participate in a sport they can enjoy individually. The dangers do still exist, but one can become hurt while participating in any sport so those dangers are not relevant, therefore pros outweigh cons and kids should be able to participate in extreme sports. Kids who participate in extreme sports have an opportunity to compete in a sport they enjoy rather than engaging in team sports that involve being dependent on others.
Athletic Training is practiced by athletic trainers. Athletic trainers treat and prevent injuries that are most of the time caused by athletic involvement. In the future Marsha would like to be an Athletic Trainer for The University of Wilmington. She wants to help athletes play to their best ability by ensuring the prevention to injuries and giving them immediate care.
The amount of children participating in competitive sports has been on a steady decline in the past decade. Between the years of 2008 and 2013, the total number of children participating in competitive sports has dropped by approximately 2.6 million. This is mainly due to the many negative impacts that young athletes face when partaking in these sports. Competitive sports involve sports where competition is encouraged, and where winning is more important than anything else. Competing in these sports causes the children to be vulnerable to many risks and many other negative impacts.
So now, it should be more required than ever to make sure kids aren’t overweight and they are fit. Although physical education takes time away from other subjects in the classroom, physical education should be required in schools because our generation is becoming overweight and it helps students do better in class. If I am not interested in what I am doing I am most likely not going to succeed in it. I do not think that anyone would want to do something that they are not interested in. Forcing a student to do an extracurricular activity that they may not be interested in is not right. For example, forcing me to play a sport or do an activity that I do not want to do, trying my hardest is not on my radar. Some students are interested in playing video games, but the school does not provide that.
THROWING LIGHT ON SOME INTERNATIONAL ARENAS The United Nations High Commissions for Refugees (UNCHR), are using sports and play programmes to encourage young people, particularly girls and young women to attend school within refugee camps across the world. In addition UNICEF has a strong focus on using physical education and play programmes to campaign for girl’s education promoting through events and awareness campaign.
Many students already have an extracurricular activity that they are evolved in. Producing a mandatory extracurricular activity is irrelevant to the school day and events that take place during it. Although this idea would fit better at a different place I disagree with this argument. I disagree with this argument because the mandatory activity would mess up more things than it fixed. The principle has had multiple great ideas in the past but, this is not one of them.
