In the town of Dover, PA, some parents were not satisfied with the teaching system applied to science course in Dover High School. They argued that besides teaching Darwin’s theory of evolution, students should also know other explanation to the beginning of lives, for instance, the intelligent design. The school board then made a statement asserting that Darwin’s theory of evolution is “not a fact” and there were “gaps” in evolution. The town was divided into two groups, one that believed in Darwin’s theory of evolution, while other believed in intelligent design. Eventually, eleven Dover residents sued the school board for teaching students about intelligent design.
The theory of evolution claims that all species are arise from common ancestors. The basic part of natural selection is “the survival of the fittest”, according to Darwin’s theory. Different species living in the same space compete for limited resources, and the individual organisms that have the most advantage characteristics needed for survival are more likely to reproduce and pass down their generations compared to other species.
