M3 M3: Make and support valid decisions relating to the specification of materials for a tutor provided application Introduction By using the materials identified in P6 I can decide on which material is best suited for a foundation, building frame, guttering, external cladding of walls and wall insulation by looking at each materials properties and performance. This will help decide on which material is best suited for each component of the building as we will be able to find which material is the strongest and long-lasting for the foundation and which is best at stopping heat transfer for the wall insulation. For a construction project to be successful the right material needs to be used for each component in the building to ensure that the
Quality assurance from raw materials to construction techniques. Construction analysis for the best possible approach, especially in dealing with the challenges of building something great from scratch. Compliance of the building code ensure a structure is capable of performing as intended and built according to standards. It also ensure future inspection process will not be a cause for concern.
The second half of Grand Design by Donal Stoker continues on with Stoker’s analysis of the war. He seemingly continues his support and provides evidence of the Union’s strategic thinking and analysis before battles. Stoker continues his top down approach of the war that he clearly states in the beginning of the book, which at times can cause some aggression states when analyzing the strategic components of this war. Its interesting and entertaining at points which makes the reader question if some statements are true when Stoker does not provide citations. Stoker’s top down approach also seemed to tarnish some of his analysis of the war because the leadership of the Civil War was not always a hierarchal state of command.
It cost less money, since there was less building materials work with, it looks better, it represented power and prestige, it is very strong and can hold a lot of weight, and it creates more space like when it is used to make a dome. This was done when the Romans arranged several arches in a way to create a half circle to put on top of a circular wall, acting like a
Columns were large pillars that held up the things above it and gave support to the building. The western civilizations adapted this technique and incorporated columns in several of their architecture for example the lincoln memorial and the capital building. This was another contribution from Greek that has affected the Western
Before bricks were commonly used, a large portion of the wall was built from earth, stone and wood. Since there was such a large quantity of material needed, local sources of materials were always sought after first, then other material would be brought in. If the building of the wall was being done in the mountains, builders would use the stone around them. If they were building in the plains, soil would be pressed into blocks and used as building material. If they were in the desert, they would have to resort to any means necessary.
Why mess with a system that has proven itself to work countless times in history? I mean when these building would have been designed the architect whether in 1700 or 1900 would have seen the ability of Doric and Ionic styles to last the test of time. As well as the fact that Greek architecture plays well with awkward pieces of ground so if they were building something on a hill they could make it appear perfectly level as well have made it structurally sound. As well as the columns disperse weight well so they would be able to get almost as large as they wanted safely.
Frank Lloyd Wright is considered to be the pioneer of modern architecture. He created an identity for American architecture, while rejecting Neoclassical and Victorian style designs. Wright called this “organic architecture”. It is architecture that is simple, yet modern and co-exists with architecture. He provided a new perspective on architecture and “The American Style”.
Tectonics is defined as the science or art of construction, both in relation to use and artistic design. It refers not just to the activity of making the materially requisite construction that answers certain needs but rather to the activity that raises this construction as an art form. It is concerned with the modeling of material to bring the material into presence - from the physical into the meta-physical world (Maulden, 1986). Since tectonics is primarily concerned with the making of architecture in a modern world, its value is seen as being a partial strategy for an architecture rooted in time and place therefore beginning to bring poetry in construction. Tectonics, however, has the capacity to create depth-ness of context resulting in the implicit story being told by the tectonic expression.
There are mostly two kinds of Roofing these days. First is the Commercial and other one is the Residential Roofing. Commercial Roofing is used to ensure and seal the highest point of commercial structures while residential roofing is for the security of the private houses and flats. It covers basic entries and avoids leakage of rain water from entering the building. Commercial Roofing by and large has a generally level slant, instead of Residential Roofing, which is regularly steeply inclined.
As a start, the building types are many as the private houses, baths, as well as temples and theatres and these are our points; Firstly in temples, Greeks’ structures were invented to be the home of gods called Parthenon having an obsolete religion. As inside these sanctuaries they didn’t have spots of meeting, but obeying the penances and aimed to custom an individual god in them. These temples anyways were sometimes used to be storage of votive offerings. Subsequently, they are very unique in there style and very essential modeling construction. For examples, the palace of Knossos, and Athens acropolis.
I could not forget the excitement I had waking up in the morning and running straight to the Lego structures deciding how to build a certain structure and a daydream I had of imagining of actual being built in real life. / deciding how to build a certain structure. The snapping and fitting of bricks, rods and gears captivated me for countless hours. Every Lego brick I laid down furthered my interest in designing and engineering.
Its name derives for the use of roman semicircular arches use in most doors and windows. The architects encountered a construction problem since they wanted to use masonry for the ceiling instead of wood. It made it more complicated since they now needed a stronger support for the ceiling. In order to find a practical solution, most of its buildings rely on the mass of the walls to support the heavy ceiling. Also, the use of arches tunnels for the roof made it more secure preventing it to fall which created what is called a vault.
Mankind has always faced many natural obstacles, one of them being the harsh elements of the weather. In order to protect themselves, humans began to build shelters to keep warm and survive. This acted as the roots that gave rise to the industry of architecture. As time has passed and societies have come and gone, the advancements in architecture have continued to grow, but never again has there been a time more influential and lasting on architecture than the era of the Greeks and Romans. Their architectural achievements revolutionized modern architecture in a way that is still being used to this day.
In the times of modern design, art and design has already become a part of our life and plays important roles in our society. Design not only decorates our society and living places, but also brings us a well-rounded life and makes our life become more colourful. Design is a great benefit that would not cause any negative issues to our society. So can you imagine how boring and dull will be if does not exist any art and design in our daily life? Can you imagine how our life will be in the future?
