Have you ever been scared to lose someone you love and trust? Have you ever thought about how it could change your life? In the novel, Walk Two Moons, by Sharon Creech it talks about the life of a young girl named Salamanca Tree Hiddle. The story takes place on a road trip to see her mothers grave. While on the road trip she tells her grandma the story of Phoebe Winterbottom and other characters in the story. Sal lived with her mom on a farm in Bybanks, Kentucky. After a devastating incident involving her mother, (Chanhassan) left her family and never came back. After this incident, Salamanca later moved to Euclid, Ohio. In Ohio, she had met her best friend Phoebe Winterbottom. Phoebe also encountered a similar experience with a different outcome. …show more content…

Before I tell you the reason, you need to hear Sal’s background. Sal was around 13 and living in Bybanks, Kentucky, when her beloved mother left and never returned. She later moved to Euclid, Ohio where she met Phoebe. Phoebe’s life had been relatively perfect. We later realize that Phoebe’s mother may seem perfect, but she was truly not perfect. She has been struggling with an incident that happened before she met Phoebe’s dad. Because of the problem, she left. In the end Phoebe’s mom came back, but Sal’s mother never did. When Sal saw this, she was happy but some of her felt envious of how her mother never came back but Phoebe’s did. We know she is jealous of it because of what she said. She said on page 264,”The last jealousy is not foolish nor is it one that will go away just yet. I am jealous that Phoebe’s mother came back and mine did not.” After reading this, you know she has been jealous for a while and is envious that her mother came back.
