Are ADHD medications overprescribed? The answer to that is yes. A lot of people these days are being misdiagnosed and overprescribed. It is unsettling to see the amount of Americans taking medication to treat ADHD, and how many negative side effects there are taking ADHD medication. Recent discoveries show that the numbers of people being prescribed with medication to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) have increased dramatically. With the number of Americans taking ADHD medication, many studies on the side effects of ADHD medication have also been showing worrying safety concerns. If a child decides to wreak havoc at home and in the classroom, parents will undergo an immense stress. To relieve that stress it’s unbelievably easy to make an appointment with a physician and prescribe your child with ADHD medication. This is often known as a “quick fix”. That way your child will improve in the classroom and their behavior will improve as well. Virtually all studies show that ADHD stimulants reduce symptoms in 70% of children. However there are alternative treatments without the use of pharmaceuticals. Diet can play a huge role in decreasing the symptoms of ADHD. “A study published recently in Lancet, a leading medical journal, found that 64% of children with ADHD had substantial improvement in their symptoms when certain foods were eliminated from their diets. Omega-3 fatty-acid supplements and the elimination of iron and zinc deficiencies also have been shown to significantly improve ADHD symptoms in many children.” Certain children will definitely require some form of ADHD stimulant but with taking the ADHD stimulant the dosage and the time the medication is taken will have to be closely tailored to how severe the individuals ADHD
