Today in society, 6.4 million children are diagnosed with ADHD (Olivera). ADHD is a disease diagnosed to children and adults for attention and hyperactivity issues, hence Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). But the disorder is a tricky disorder that may or may not be a real disorder. The treatment for this common disorder is medication. Sure they have weird home remedies and what not but the most effective is the medication, until maturation of course. Maturing makes it easier to control it on your own. The disorder affects the neurotransmitters in the brain getting rid of the ability to focus and just calm down (McCarthy). While some believe that children with ADHD are being over medicated, the real problem are the misdiagnosed children who are being over medicated. If the child meets all the items on the list then the doctor will diagnose. But there’s more to the checklist. Kids with ADHD have a focus issue where even the smallest things can throw them off track of thought (ADHD Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). Because of the issue, there’s programs on the computer that is an alternative test that basically is a simple test that the child will take to make the important diagnosis for the doctor. So if, technology provides us with such intelligent products why are there still so many misdiagnosis? The majority of doctors stick to the old checklist which obviously isn’t as accurate. So if the doctors were to be required to use the computers to test all the time then it would obviously decrease misdiagnosis, since it takes the testing to another level.
