When it comes to the list of governmental agencies which the average American has a general understanding of their purpose, the CDC is among the top on that list. The central mission of promoting the health of Americans by means of prevention and also education on health topics along with the constant media coverage has lead to the CDC being seen as one of the foremost authorities on health matters. So it is no surprise that the CDC has taken to the task of educating the public on the issue of ADHD as seen with their hosted page on the issue. With such information now in hand, the process of gaining a proper diagnosis is spoken of since it is not a universal process but rather is often quite involved. Of course, the diagnosis also will come with treatment which as discussed can range from behavioral therapy and medication to simply managing symptoms via a healthy lifestyle (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2017b). When it comes to the appeals that make up the modes of persuasion, the CDC employs all three of them in order to fulfill their goal. The emotional appeal is created by the process of using real world examples of how ADHD can have an impact. Additionally, the CDC targets more of a general audience by addressing certain matters regarding ADHD that the general public may lack the knowledge on. An example of this is by going over the common misconceptions regarding the causes of ADHD, a discussion that may not be needed for those knowledgeable on the subject but extremely useful for those unfamiliar on the topic (CDC, 2017b).
