The Pros And Cons Of Bringing Back Extinct Animals

866 Words4 Pages

Although many say bringing the dead back from the past is wrong.. Why shouldn’t we?
There are many reasons why we should think about bringing extinct animals back to life. First These animals could help the environment. Also, bringing back extinct animals could help us understand the way the earth was in the past. Bringing back extinct species wouldn’t be hard
Bringing back extinct animals will help the environment. For example, In the article Should We Bring Back Extinct Species it states, “ This could repopulate the area, encouraging the revival of ancient grasslands.” This quote shows us that with just bringing back one species we would get grasslands in Antarctica that we don't have. So just imagine what would happen if we brought back …show more content…

First, the article written by Liza Lester states, “De-extinction could restore vital functions that these lost animals performed, and thus benefit other inhabitants of their ecosystems.” We can guess what these extinct animals did for the ecosystems. By bringing them back they can give us more of and idea of what they did and what happened after they were extinct. The article Bringing Them Back to Life states, “The mammoths and numerous herbivores maintained the grassland by breaking up the soil and fertilizing it with their manure.” Secondly, this tells us how some animals preserved their environment and in a way helped their ecosystem. For example when the Woolly Mammoth lived in the tundra, which is now full of ice but back then was filled with grasslands. The animals helped the grass grow with their manure, the manure would help the grass grow and in return the animals had food. This also shows us that in the past they were a really great asset. Carl Zimmer wrote, “Once they were gone, moss took over and transformed the grassland into less productive tundra.” Also, the quote tells us that after the Woolly Mammoth went extinct that the grasslands were taken over by moss which lead to their not being as much grass. This gives us insight to the past by showing us what the Woolly mammoth offered as a species to its …show more content…

David Shultz states, “The first, called backbreeding, involves finding living species that have traits similar to the extinct species.” Additionally, Back breeding is when you find two similar species, that are similar to the animal that’s extinct, by doing this you get an animal that resembles that of the one that’s extinct. Witch is something quite easy we could do. The article Should we bring extinct species back from the dead says, “They would then use CRISPR and other gene-editing tools to swap relevant genes from the extinct animal into the living species and implant the hybrid genome into a surrogate (or grow it in an artificial womb). In other words, CRISPR is used to make De-extinction possible in a different way. CRISPR gets a species related to the species that has gone extinct and then the genetically modify it. The end result of CRISPR is a species close to what it was but not completely the same.CRISPR is also cheaper than it was before, wich is great if we want to revive multiple species. The article Bringing extinct species back from the dead could hurt—not help—conservation efforts states, “The cost of caring for a population of resurrected mammoths, for instance, should be similar to the cost of caring for the endangered Asian elephant.” Nevertheless, there are downsides to De-extinction.The quote shows us one of those downsides, the price to keep these animals well and safe is expensive. The estimated
