“We have a single mission: to protect and hand on the planet to the next generation.” (Francois Hollande) Climate change can easily be regarded as one of the most highly debated subjects in modern times, bringing forth risks for the future and perceptions that can be detrimental to our survival. Climate change, is a very real and dangerous problem that is destroying the southeast region as well as the world, day by day. From our land and waters to our health, our world is crumbling beneath us, leaving little to no warning and putting our future in jeopardy at each passing moment. Many believe in climate change but, very little see the adverse effects on our world or to personal self. Climate change is not seeable, therefore the public eye is quick to judge that it may be real but, the effects are not personal. This perception is likely a means to an end. Media has much to do with how we receive and perceive our information. Media outlets will run stories on climate change to cover different agendas within politics and the community, however, this information is bare and nearly non-existent. Scholars Wanyun Shao and Kirby Goidel explained of public opinion scholar John Zaller in their article about climate change perceptions in the gulf coast region,
“The information environment, of which the mass media constitutes a great portion, does not provide clear pictures of complicated issues like climate change. By framing news stories as science controversies and falsely balancing sources, the news media helps create the image of an unsettled scientific debate despite an overwhelming scientific consensus.
