The Pros And Cons Of Climate Change

Have you ever wondered if climate change is a hoax? Climate change, also known as global warming, refers to the rise in average surface temperatures on Earth. Currently, icecaps are melting, sea levels are rising, forests are dying, and wildlife is struggling to survive. It's becoming clear that human activity has caused most of the century's warming by releasing heat-trapping gases to power our modern lives. For example, greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane are higher now than in the last 650,000 years ("What is Climate Change"). Additionally, the global average temperature today is hotter than ever. Ten of 2015’s monthly global temperatures either tied or broke existing records; overall the year proved 0.90ºCelsius warmer …show more content…

Many people such as politicians like Senator Marco Rubio and Congressman Greg Walden believe that climate change is not a problem. Even Australian scientist Jennifer Marohasy says global temperatures would have still risen without the Industrial Revolution (Martin 1). Some scientists state that global warming is a natural phenomenon which heats the planet in cycles – like how Ice Ages have cooled Earth throughout its history (Martin1). Despite Dr.Marohasy's claims, NASA and the IPCC have repeatedly declared that global warming is a result of human activity, saying that there is a “95% probability” that it is caused by man (Martin 1). Additionally, if Dr.Marohasy was right, how do you explain the exponential increase of greenhouse gases post-Industrial Revolution? Data provided by NASA depict that the Industrial Revolution began in 1750, and since then carbon dioxide levels have risen by more than 30% and methane levels have risen more than 140%. Asserting global climate change as a natural phenomenon is not reasonable. As there are more evidence and data to support the notion that humans are accountable for the warming of the planet. Sequentially, Earth's climate is not wavering due to the natural cycle but rather as a result of
