Recently gun violence has made an appearance on social media and major news outlets in America. When the Second Amendment was created it generated a permanent bond between citizens and gun. As a result of this many citizens take pride in owning a gun for mainly self-defense and recreational uses. However, this is a big issue due to the mass shootings and school shootings that have occurred due to people exercising their “right to bear arm”. According to Gun Violence Archive, about 48 mass shooting incidents have occurred just in 2018, leaving about 2,983 people dead since the year started, and about 5,151 injured. What they are choosing to ignore is that guns are doing more damage than good in today’s society. Over the course of the past few years, there have been many reports of gun violence all around the country concluding in a total of over 8,134 incidents involving a gun. In many of these cases, the person who owned the gun suffered from some mental illness. Should the government put in place a better system so it is harder for people to get guns? Should there be a better program that offers better background checks? Should the Second Amendment be revised so it’s hard for people to obtain a gun? Should guns be banned altogether? Terror has caused individuals to be more aware of their surroundings, people around them and fight for more laws against guns. While other are resulting in purchasing their own gun. The fear of not being able to protect oneself or to be at an unfair advantage has caused an increase in more gun training to be better prepared for an active shooter scenario. Although nobody knows which side of these two sides are right, the violence of guns has already had a bad effect on the United States. It seems there are more racial issues and stereotypes being created and moving the country away from each other.
