Throughout America, guns are selling at alarming rates with daily news reports covering homicides and suicides all by the hands of a gunman. With that comes the question, how is the average American allowed to own any type of firearm that he may not be specially equipped to handle, especially one that is military grade? Along with this, why is access to a gun so easy with nationwide stores such as Walmart selling rifles next to the music aisle? The problem we as Americans face is the increasing resistance of gun owners to put limitations on the ways they can use their guns and what types they have the right to bear. Unfortunately, the United States’ gun control system is one that has many loopholes, evident when someone with a mental illness is able to legally buy an automatic weapon. With this neglect comes imminent danger as someone who could be a potential threat to society is now an armed and ready assassin.
