For the past few months, school shootings throughout America have left people stunned and more divided than ever.
Many believe that enacting new laws on weapon purchases, background checks and requiring safety devices on firearms to prevent children from accessing them will prevent these shootings from happening in schools and in general.
It is a step in the right direction. However, it is not sufficient nor is it effective enough.
America needs well-regulated gun laws, and the politicians must understand that the legislations should be based upon facts, not emotions.

These laws have had some positive consequences according to former United States military General James Thurman; the murder rate dropped 7% in the past year. It is a step in the right direction and most importantly it shows how effective gun control can be.
Another idea that has been introduced is the mandatory use of safety devices or child locks on all weapons. This is an excellent suggestion. In 1995 over 150 children died after being accidentally shot in comparison to 2015 where over 1.700 children got injured.
Unfortunately, pro-gun supporters do not like the idea of being forced to use a lock on their gun however what they fail to realize is that several traditional household items such as medicine bottles, lawnmowers, and even TVs have child safety devices.

Guns are very dangerous objects, and security measures should be taken to reduce the risk of injury.Several anti-gun advocates such as myself fail to acknowledge the fact that Americans have used firearms to stop over a million crimes from getting committed each year.
