A very widespread complication in America is the debate over one of the ten amendments. The 2nd amendment states,“ A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” https://www.loc.gov/law/help/second-amendment.php (Acosta 2). The interpretation of this has many different meanings to many people. Although the meaning of this isn’t the problem, but the way the supreme court suffers to act upon it is the issue. Because of many fatal events, the way to prevent further situations is the question. Will making guns illegal really resolve these issues on gun control? In many cases, events such as a school shooting usually result in multiple people dead before the cops show up and put a stop to it. One occurrence where a banquet hall-owner, James Strand, stepped in before things got too ugly, demonstrated a strong argument. 14-year-old boy, Andrew Wurst, surrendered after James Strand pointed a shotgun at him; the police arrived ten minutes later. Without that man carrying a concealed weapon, who’s to tell how many people could have potentially been killed that night. Allowing citizens to carry a concealed weapon can prevent further mass shootings from happening. Not any citizen should be allowed to carry a concealed weapon, but a person who meets the right requirements can greatly reduce the risk of the loss of lives. One way to ensure safety with this law, is by requiring a mandatory background check and psychoanalysis test showing that you have a clean mental health record. One study shows that when states enacted death penalty laws, raised their arrest rates for murder, or required a wait time before purchasing a weapon, it had no effect on the number of deaths from mass shootings being taken place.
