ISIS: A Growing Threat The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is the world’s largest terrorist organization that controls both Syria and Iraq in different places. This is a very dangerous world that we live in and the threat that ISIS poses does not help matters any. This group has carried out well over sixty attacks in twenty countries besides Iraq and Syria totaling around 1,160 deaths and over 1,700 injured. The scary part is that all of these tragedies have only taken place since 2014. ISIS was formed in 1999, which leads me to the question: How much longer are we as a nation going to allow ISIS to continue, and how will they be stopped? I could not believe how such a large group of people could be so vile and gruesome. I wondered what was so motivating for them to commit such acts. I later began to think about the psychology behind religion. Any extreme believer in a given religion is more than likely going to do about whatever it takes to carry out his/hers religious beliefs no matter how intense the act may be. Take Christianity for example. Most Christians try to please God by doing what the Bible instructs, and believe that he is the one and only God; and that is the way that everyone is supposed to live. Most religions are similar to this idea. Imagine being born into a society with the same belief system as ISIS. Would a person think that his/her actions are unjust? Probably not since the Quran and Allah, whom they believe in and worship, say that their actions are necessary and if they do not believe in Allah, then the consequence is their own life.
