The Atom Bomb.

After reading these articles, we should be asking a lot of questions. Was it necessary to drop these bombs or should we have gone on foot? What was the worst of the evils? Who would suffer the most from going in and taking over. The number of innocent lives that were lost were incredible. These people had to see their children die and their families burn, everything they knew and loved was gone. The aftermath of the bombing has been just as bad as the attack itself. I am sure these people felt as if the innocent people were in Hell. As William Sherman said “war is hell,” did it have to be? I feel that if there was more communication between the governments, maybe we could have prevented the bombings and save lives.

Scientists thought that we may be attacked by these bombs in war and decided that the only course of action would be a counter attack with the same type of bombs. The people felt we must justify why we have to drop the bomb, and what it means for us once it has been dropped, because there are a lot of responsibilities assigned with such a power. If we were to drop these bombs there could also be unforeseen consequences and we must be prepared that if they are dropped that we are opening the door to an entire generation of devastation. The country felt like if the could make these materials why can’t other countries, so we would be living in constant fear that we could be attacked at any time. The quote “For Truman, the choice whether or not to use the atomic bomb was the most difficult decision of his life”(The decision). So the first thing they did was tell Japan you need to surrender, and that if they did not it would lead to total destruction, we did not tell them how we would do it, and of course the Japanese military refused to surrender, after their refusal Truman knew what he had to do. So on August 6th, 1945 the atomic bomb was dropped on the city of Hiroshima and as soon as it was dropped 70,000 Japanese were killed. Than after that an additional 100,000 people were killed from burns and sickness and radiation. After all was said and done, two days later the soviet union dropped another atomic bomb on Nagasaki and another 80,000 Japanese were killed.
