Fencing game animals results in unnatural genetics with animals unable to move freely. Providing easy game on farms lulls hunters into thinking all is well and wild habitat doesn’t need to be protected, defended, or enhanced. Game farms ignore less popular species and no one has the right to pen any wild species. Conditions on breeding farms are inhumane. Trophy hunting encourages “canned hunting” where animals are raised in captivity to be shot. Recognized by both conservationists and hunters, canned hunting is thought to have no benefit for wild populations. These facilities are even thought to be a serious cause of disease transmission to wild populations (Palazy 2015).

There are some dirty things going on in the world of trophy hunting, that cannot argued. But we can’t just say, “well, these few breeding programs are really inhumane, so let’s just do away with trophy hunting”, that’d be the same as saying “let’s do away with conservation.” What we need to do is let trophy hunting continue and let conservation thrive and put more of a focus on policy, governance, regulation and enforcement. Trophy hunting should be assessed on a case-by-case basis, and that the management should be guided by the total benefit for conservation (Lindsey 2013).
