Would you consider yourself a guardian? Do you even know what a guardian is? A guardian is someone who keeps or protects themselves and others. As US citizens we need to be guardians of the liberties of our country. First we need to know how our government works. Then we need to know how our government affects normal people like us. And finally we need to know the rights we have and that we should protect. So first, i’ll talk about how our government works. The US government has three branches, the legislative, executive and the judicial. The legislative branch is made up of the congress, senate and the house of representatives; their job is to make the laws. While the executive branch is made up of the president, vice president and cabinet; their job is to carry out the laws. And finally the judicial branch is made up of the supreme court and other federal courts; their job is to evaluate the laws made by the legislative branch. Also campaigns and elections get the citizens involved by reminding them of the power of their vote. The process of electing government officials gives citizens important information regarding issues and candidates qualifications for office. Another way citizens connect to the government is through the media. The media continues to become a huge part of our life and society. The media is the way that most everyone finds out about the candidates for office, public officials activities, and the issues of the day.
