The Reader That is Known as Corrin
Secrets….Everyone has them including me. One of my secrets is that I love reading. But shhh…. You can’t tell anyone. When I read I make an emotional and mental connection with the characters, comparing them to myself and basically living there lives in the book. A great writer once wrote “The more you read the more things you know. The more that you learn the more places you go,” (Dr. Seuss), although he was a children’s book writer what he wrote was absolutely true. I’ve visited so many different places because of reading. I’m not sure about most people but reading was introduced to me at a young age by my parents so I don’t think my view on books will ever change considering how much I love to read. When kindergarten came around I had a hard time. I knew my alphabet but I was behind everyone when it came to reading and math. I ended up finding out I had ADHD. We ended up finding a medication that worked for me. While I helped me focus a great deal it couldn’t make up for how behind I was compared to the other kids. My mom and dad discussed this with the teacher and decided that I would do kindergarten again. So when I went into kindergarten a second time I went from being way behind to way ahead of everyone else in both reading and math. So the people that helped make me the reader I am are my mom, dad, kindergarten teacher, and one other person who has not been mentioned at all so far in this essay. That person is my aunt Katherine. Although she wasn’t really apart of my life she was a role model for me. She was an honor student, head cheerleader, and was super pretty. I wanted to be just like her as a kid and I still do to this day. Now the book that was a big influence had to be the first book I ever remember reading was “Junie B. Jones is a Graduation Girl” by Barbara Park. I was so proud of myself for reading this book considering it was a chapter book and everyone else was
