Dark, cold, and frightened is how some may feel as they are alone in the route of becoming a new brothers or sisters to the organizations that are open to the rituals of hazing. These rituals are known to some as hazing and others as tradition. Those who see it as tradition see this as a way to earn their trust. If you are willing to put your reputation and life on the line then you have earned the title of becoming their brother or sister. To be a part of the organization's’ new families, many to all of their members have to go through some sort of “tradition”. As many of their traditions will lead to a form of violence, embarrassment, and/or oppression. Most universities see the rituals performed in colleges are a form of hazing and tradition. However, when it is used to "[produced] bodily harm or danger, mental or physical discomfort, embarrassment, harassment, fright, or ridicule, " people then there is a problem among both the council's, students, alumni, and board. There will have to be school punishment and/or criminal actions. In the peer review journal “White Boys Drink, Black Girls Yell..." They mention that many of the actions by the students who participate in the hazing will get a misdemeanor. Until it goes too far then they will get an assault and battery charge, sexual assault, and even involuntary manslaughter. Usually the school will slap their wrists with suspension. Suspension is a low charge upon the Organization. The Organization is on the grounds to be expelled. If the hazing happened and they do not know who was a part of it. There is someone who should be put on as to blame. There were lives at risk. No one student should be a part of hazing. They are custom what they believe in. One that is passed down for generations is the segregation between races. Some people believe that the races should be combined and there will be equality for all who are involved in the organizations. If those who practice the segregation of the two, they are going to be considered to be hazing against the minority of the group. At the Southern Methodist University, there were many in the panhellenic (white) sororities that want them to stay pure of those with different color of skin. Those who were for decided to write a thread online about the reasons that African American women should not join what they want to join. Many of the reasons were because of the background that the women came from. They used stereotypes to talk about the differences, as well. For example “low GPA, bad grades, not involved on campus, know nothing about the house's.” This argument contributed to the hazing and the traditions of the organizations. This is the tradition of the races. White/ caucasian people requested to have different houses from the different minority groups. This was a tradition for a long time. The same goes for the African Americans within the organizations. Once these groups started to mix up, some people who was fixed on the tradition sought unforgiving ways to keep the two apart.
