The secret life of bees is a tale about a 14-year-old blonde haired girl, Lily Owens who escapes her lonely and not so healthy relationship with her father, T-Ray. Lily is haunted by the visions of her dead mother and is left with a few memories and valuables that was left when she passed, which leads her and Rosaleen to the Boatwright sisters, Lily realises that August Bowater, (The oldest Bowater sister out of the 3) meant more to Lily’s mother than they both had known. The way the author presented August is a way I would want myself personally to be presented and the reason August Bowater interests me is because of her independence as a dark “Negro” women and her generosity towards others. Everyone is equal and should be treated equally not based on what you look like or who you are. A piece of evidence from the movie where racism is clearly showed is when (Like I’ve previously explained) Zach and Lily were caught in the movies sitting together and two cops came in and said “Hey boy, where going to teach you a lesson boy” and Lily stands up and say “it’s not his fault, let him go” and instantly the cop pushes her over and shouts “shut your mouth you nigger lover” this movie really makes me feel, not only angry but upset that others are treated this way, It’s not fair and its selfish that “negro” people are banned from happiness with different racists.
