Coming of age Is there a moment that you can remember when you felt like you grew up? Coming of age is when a person has grown up and reached adulthood. The two coming-of-age components I am providing are experiencing loss and parents' perception. The Scarlet Ibis is about a boy and his brother Doodle. The scarlet ibis is about a boy (who we don't know the name of) and his brother Doodle. When Doodle was born he had some kind of disease and was not able to walk, swim, or anything so the boy decided he wanted to teach his brother to walk so he took him out every day and he learned to walk, run, swim, and row. But one day when they were coming home a thunderstorm hit and they began to run but Doodle could not keep up and the boy found him dead underneath a bush. At the beginning of the story, The Boy was happy and determined to teach Doodle how to walk, but at the end of the story, he was sad, mad at himself, and wished he didn't push his brother so hard. “I began to weep, and the tear-blurred vision in red before me looked very familiar” This quote shows how the boy regrets that he pushed him so hard.
