The first shortcoming I discovered is to think critically and creatively. The ability to create new dimensions of thinking, and be able to analyze and evaluate the information gathered from all possible resources is a key to achieve a new level of leadership. To improve this skill, two objectives are to be achieved: first, critical and creative thinking requires broad knowledge base, one that unfortunately I don’t have due to the lack of reading. To be honest, I have never read any book outside the scope of basic education. This has left shortage in my general knowledge which affect the ability to examine the credibility of information. Understanding the culture at the strategic level will reduce the possibility of policies that may exacerbate an insurgency and the lack of social and cultural knowledge will lead to a negative public opinion which could endanger both civilian and military. Add to this that the new strategic environment is becoming more complex and ambiguous, and our mutual enemy is working in different environment outside the context of the nation state in a transnational scope, he does not follow the norms of war , a better way to reduce its ambiguity is to increase our cultural tolerance and look at it from the eyes of international allies.
