The United States is one of the largest agency/institution in the spectrum of American bureaucracies. As a bureaucracy the army has unique challenge of operating a large organization with accuracy and speed to respond to the demands of the modern battlefield. The United States Army was formed on June 14, 1775, and since then its primary goal has been the defense of the country and to achieve land dominance of the battlefield against any enemies of the United States. Originally formed as the Continental Army, it was created by an act of Congress during the Revolutionary War to fight the British forces and achieve American independence. At times its outputs are highly observable with things such as training exercises, induction of new recruits, and carrying out logistical process. While its outcomes in peace time are less visible to the public at large, during peacetime standard operating procedures (SOP's) and doctrine take precedence in governing the day to day task of Army operations. While it might be procedural during peace time, it is craft organization during times conflict in which its daily task are ever changing and less observable, but operational outcomes are more visible as missions necessary for completion are achieved( cities taken, enemies destroyed, and indigenous civilian population relations are improved) . The army operates within majoritarian agency environment, and this due to the Army’s cost being dispersed of the whole tax paying population of the country and it protects everyone in from foreign threats.
