The study population was limited to children in families that had elected center-based care and did not include personal child care facilities that people provide from their own homes.
Once you open an in-home daycare, you must realize that it’s no longer just “home”- it is now your business. People are going to be coming into your home five days a week and your home is going to begin to show the “wear and tear” of taking care of a group of children day in and day out. Research Statement I am passionate about the field of child welfare and focused squarely on advancing scholarship on foster care and adoption through research and teaching the next generation of social work practitioners and scholars. I am knowledgeable about child welfare and youth services broadly, as a result of my past experiences as a child welfare social worker in Santa Clara County, as an applied researcher at Westat (a social science research firm) and Chapin Hall Center for Children at the University of Chicago, as a policy analyst with the Pew Commission on Children in Foster Care, and as a senior policy advisor to former Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano, where I worked directly on a major overhaul of the Arizona child welfare system.
Dr. Laura Schlesinger believes that daycare is in between sinister and cruel, which might be an overly emotional description, daycare is not what is best for a family or a child, but by no means is it cruel. Kids need socialization, with people their age, day care can offer that to them, which is a positive. During my time at placement I was given the role of a Nursery Assistant; My duties were to plan and prepare activities for children, read stories, nappy change them, observe and make notes for use in their reports. I was also a key worker for one child, I had to monitor their progress and share information about their development with their parents and carers. The setting was a warm and welcoming environment, I found that all of the staff were very friendly and reassuring. The placement lasted for four weeks and I worked from Monday to Friday from 8:30AM to 5:30PM. On my first day I arrived at 10AM for my induction and was introduced by the manager of the setting to the other members of staff.

Without daycare services being provided for students, having a job or trying to keep a job can be difficult for teenage parents who want to continue their high school education and prepare for the future. There should be daycare centers available at high schools because it would lower dropout rates, make life easier for teenage parents, and provide children with safety. Although, people say that daycare in school makes it a welfare state. “This is money that schools are using to find help for families who have been left high and dry by cuts to public services”(Kershaw, n.d).
On the other hand, you have nannies and at-home child care providers. These people generally already know the parent or parents of the child and have a significant relationship. Although some are not licensed by the state as official child care providers, they can be more trustworthy than the child care center because of the existing relationship. The downside to hiring a private nanny or child care provider is that it can be much more expensive than just dropping your child off at a center. Child care also has no existing threats.
A daycare with high quality provides plenty of benefits for children. Daycare teaches children to learn, share, take turns, and prepare each child for onset task for school. Daycare helps children to ease separation anxiety, and get used to being around other people. To find an excellent high-quality daycare you will have to start with the basics. For instance trained caregivers, who are committed to the center; along with a clean play area.
