Eyes on the Prize – “The Awakening” discusses how everyone deserves to be treated with equal rights and respect. America fought a second revolution when it came to the concept of segregation. It was fought to be America for all its citizens no matter what race or color. Movement means to fight and answer back not walk away from it. The prize was freedom that no American was ready to lose. Segregation became the social system of America to keep blacks and whites apart. Most blacks were servants, laborers, tenant farmers, attended poor schools, and lived in separate poor housing. Southern blacks knew that if they didn’t abide by the rules then the system could be enforced by violence. They were some blacks who fought against this system.. Board of Education unanimously banned segregation in public schools and was considered unconstitutional. Blacks were greatly impacted by this decision. It gave them a chance to secure their own rights. Change began slowly because blacks knew that they could lose their livelihood or their lives if they pushed the whites too fast. For example, the nephew of Mose Wright, Emit Till. Two local men were arrested in charge of the murder. The whites just had to prove that they were superior to the rest of them. He was just a 14 year old who didn’t understand. He had unintentionally broken a rule of segregation by talking to a white woman. NAACP tried their best to keep this case in the news to make an example of Southern racism in the world. Montgomery like the entire south had segregated buses. Not until Rosa Parks stood up for this injustice and refused to give up her seat. Rosa Parks was arrested for this since it wasn’t her first time she had done it. This led to a one day bus boycott.
