Is the Problem the Guns?

Recently it has been almost impossible to get on social media or watch TV without the discussion on whether the gun laws need to be changed or remain the same. People are saying that these "mass killings" would not happen if gun laws were stricter. The video, "This Needs to Be Banned" by Good Beats Evil, brings up the discussion of how AR-15 and other assault rifles have killed such less lives than Planned Parenthood has. If killing innocent lives was such a problem with society then people should be trying to change the abortion laws or ban it, compared to guns. After watching the video, "This Needs to Be Banned," gun supporters and the people who are trying to change the gun laws, are the intended audience.

However, the statistics he used were from 2014. Considering this, it brings up the question, what are the numbers today? Are the numbers higher for AR killings, or have the Planned Parenthood numbers grown? This is a weak point for the video, and despite of the video being made in 2018, the creator uses statistics from four years ago. Along with questioning the numbers, the video also only uses killings being involved with ARs compared to all aspects of guns. This portion of the video can be used to help the antigun supporters, they can bring up the fact that why does anyone need to shoot that many time in that amount of time. The speaker does not talk about the guns themselves, so there is really no need to shoot the gun. It does not have anything to do with the video, so why include it? This is almost a counterargument to himself on trying to change the push away from banning …show more content…

The numbers he used shows that he well researched these two subjects. Also, the speaker is carrying an assault rifle with him during the video. At first one may question this reasoning, but with a little bit of understanding one can see he is showing that these guns are not dangerous, it is all how the person is using it. The speaker also brings up a new counterargument to the people who want guns banned. He simply states, "If you are so concerned about saving lives and protecting lives, banning AR-15s, Ak47s, bump stocks shouldn't be your number one priority. If you are actually concerned about saving lives don't ban guns, ban abortions." This leaves an underlying question that whether or not antigun supporters are really concerned about saving lives, or do they just want to get rid of guns. Like previously stated, numbers don't lie, so anyone can see Planned Parenthood kills many more lives than assault rifles do. This leaves the audience to second guess whether they are really trying to save lives or just ban guns. The video gets this message across very clearly and leaves very small room for a
