I worked as a federal prosecutor for nine years and three years before that as a city prosecutor. During those 12 years, I led and conducted investigations, developed and implemented strategies to meet complex investigative goals as well as handled hundreds of cases. Will writes in his article “A Train Wreck Called Title Ix” on the Newsweek website that colleges terminated over 400 men 's athletic teams to produce precise proportionality between the genders enrollments and participation in athletics. Although growing women’s athletics did cause some shortage in funding for men it is illogical to deny rights to one people group for the sake of having excess in another group. Sexual harassment claims in violation of Title VII were first addressed in Meritor Savings Bank v Vinson. This case marked the Supreme Court’s recognition of certain forms of sexual harassment as a violation of the Civil Rights act of 1964 Title VII, and established what forms of conduct could be seen as unlawful and in what instances an employer would be held liable. After being fired from her job at Meritor Savings Bank, Michelle Vinson sued the vice president of the bank alleging that he had coerced her to have sexual relations with him and made demands for sexual favors while at work. Vinson stated that she had sex with the vice president over forty times and testified that he had touched her in public, exposed himself to her, and raped her multiple times. Vinson argued that these conditions created a hostile working environment and that they were a form of unlawful discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights
Sexual harassment in the workplace takes many forms, and could result in a system of assault that could perpetuate continually. In the Frontline Documentary Rape in the Fields (2013), the power dynamics of undocumented female field workers and their male co-workers or bosses creates a dynamic in which these women must consent to unwelcome behavior, and many must engage in regular intercourse with these men for fear of being deported along with their entire family. Thus, these men have a leverage and can blackmail these women into agreeing to engage in a sexual relationship with these men, crossing the line between consent and force. Title IX has had a huge effect on public school education. In fact the impact is so great I could not list them all. For the sake of time I will list the biggest one and that is the impact on women’s athletics. In 1971 only 15% of the athletes in college were women. In 2012 that number is 43%.
Throughout the 1960s and the 1970s, women gained more opportunities in American society. Interscholastic athletics proved to be no exception. In 1972, Congress passed, and President Richard Nixon signed, Title IX of the United States Education Amendments of 1972, which prohibited the exclusion based on gender of education programs that receive federal funding, which amounts to any public school in the United States. While this opened the door for female inclusion, especially when it came to athletics, it also posed challenges, especially when it came to enforcing the law. Title IX provided, and described, equal educational opportunities without discrimination based on sex, but there was various beliefs about how the new law should be defended

Title IX the Catastrophe It is important that youth are active, outgoing, and confident and extracurricular activities are a great way to expand their possibilities. In this case sports, it is well known that sport participation ratio between boys and girls is not exact and in the past that gap was larger, yet the conclusion we draw from this result is that title IX has been effective. This is simply not the truth in fact I believe it has been counterproductive to youth sports in particular boys’ participation. Based on the numerous examples exhibited each and every day on the field and off the field in America, it is clear Title IX has fallen short of its purpose. The Act states, in part, “No person shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any academic, extracurricular, research, occupational training, or other education program or activity operated by a recipient which receives Federal financial assistance…” (Parameswaran). Therefore, the goals of the bill were to create an atmosphere of equality for men and women.
Title IX has become a prevalent topic of discussion over the past few months. Last September Betsy DeVos, Secretary of Education announced that she would be working on rescinding the Obama-era Title IX guidance and implicating a new interim guidance. The #MeToo Movement, a campaign aimed at supporting survivors of sexual violence began taking on momentum due to accusations towards Harvey Weinstein and numerous top-tier celebrates. Recently, former USA Gymnastics team doctor for Michigan State, Larry Nassar has been found guilty for decades of abuse on young students. A scandal that can cost MSU millions for concealing reports and allegations of victims.
Sexual harassment and sexual assault are very serious issues happening today in the workplace. Women or men have suffered from unsolicited sexual behaviors that are typically provoked by someone “higher” in position. “Sexual harassment especially has been a fixture in the workplace since women began to work outside their homes” (Fitzgerald, 1993). It is solely the responsibility of the employer to ensure that all employees within are aware and are very cautions of laws, misconduct, and liabilities. Employers must enforce the Policy Prohibiting Discrimination and further extend those laws and guidelines to their employees.
Sexual harassment is identified as any unwelcome and unwanted sexual advances, verbal or physical behavior of sexual nature and requesting for sexual favours due to which a worker’s performance is affected, he/she suffers from psychological trauma or an offensive/hostile atmosphere is created at the workplace. The occurrence of workplace sexual harassment is linked with several risk factors. The nature of job and particularly the gender ratio at a workplace and traditionally male oriented jobs are among the significant ones. These pose an increased risk for women to face situations of getting sexually offended or harassed.
