To what extent does media and communication technology affect people’s identities? Social media and communication technologies positively affect people's identities by bringing people other cultures and perspectives on the world. Making people more aware of what is happening in there culture and other cultures around the world. Media and communications makes us more diverse and broadens our horizons. The media also promotes dwindling cultures and our larger cultures making us more aware of what is happening around the world.

Social media creates more diverse people because it shows people perspectives of others and other cultures and attempts to fill cultural gaps. In america they reported people reading or viewing on an average of 5.16 different sources in the previous week. These sources would give them different perspectives on the world they live in and different sides to stories that show other cultures and their thoughts on the situations that affects people globally. Through facebook or twitter adults and student can see stances of politicians on a certain issue or we can see what our peers or coworkers are talking about and see what there perspectives on world issues. This exposes us to a new spectrum of knowledge that we would not usually be exposed to if we only googled things we were interested in. social media and communication technologies give us new sources for news. Social media exposes teens to news that affects them and others around the globe making them more knowledgeable.
