Monti Jones is a 2-year and 7-month-old male. He was born on 8/31/2012 at 26 weeks gestation weighting 1Ibs. leaving him hospitalized for 3 ½ months due to his premature delivery. Monti's premature birth history significantly impacted his early development where he endured chronic lung disease, was incubated 1-½ months due to a bleed in the cerebellum, received oxygen at home for one month, and experienced developmental delays. After sustaining a traumatic brain injury (TBI) in 2014 from a fall Monti was hospitalized and received rehabilitation for 4 ½ months. Surgical history include a craniectomy and craniolasty performed where a portion of Monti’s skull was removed for a three month period and g tube placement lasting for a year. No history of seizures, allergies or infections was reported. Monti currently receives swallow studies to monitor the continuous intake of oral substances, and blood work is conducted for suspected blood clots, and presents with a left side visual neglect. A TBI occurs when the head is stroke suddenly and violently by an object that pierces the skull and enters the brains tissues. Depending on the severity of the blow to the brain the symptoms one experiences are mild, moderate or severe. Typical symptoms present in individual experiencing TBI include; vertigo, blurred vision, headaches, confusion, fatigue, lethargy, attention, judgment, memory, and behavioral or mood swings. Early treatment is vital once an individual is diagnosed with TBI by supplying oxygen to the brain and the bodies to maintain blood flows and control blood pressure.
