How it all began: I started as an INROADS intern my junior year of college that created a catalyst for my summer internships at Travelers. INROADS partners with many Fortune 500 companies and recommended that I apply for Travelers Insurance Company. INROADS mission is to develop and place talented underserved youth in business and industry, and prepare them for corporate and community leadership. Because of my degree and affiliation with INROADS, I hope this will lead to a professional career in management with Travelers. It was a very rigorous and competitive process to join INROADS, but it ultimately paved the way for my previous and current internship with Travelers. My objectives consisted of participating and contributing to Architecture Assessment work as assigned, a collaboration with intern staff to assess internal processes and flow all while recommending improvements, submitting governance requests, and as well as working with project teams to devise solutions. Architects oversee the operations of systems and design and devise new solutions to optimize the business value at Travelers. A great thing about it is that an architect is not tied to just one specific element of expertise – unless they are subject matter experts. I enjoyed doing this role because of my inherit passion to design, create, analyze, and solve challenging situations or problems. Although I did not directly develop or code any new applications, I analyzed a great deal of modules to improve certain application process in the company. I interacted with various departments inside Corporate Shared Systems to do so. In Travelers IT, there are several different departments within each line of business.
