A simple man rises with the sunrise and prepares for another long day at work. He steps outside and unlocks his tiny, white car. The key is inserted into the ignition and twisted. An hour later, he is informed of a robbery. He flips a switch. His lights flash and sirens wail. He speeds to the scene, where other police officers take cover behind their cars as a man fires at them. The wheels screech as the man stops his car. He grabs his rifle and gets out of the car. His heart thumps in his chest as he hurries behind a car that is parked closer to the scene. Laying down, he crawls under the car until he can see the man. A wise wizard once said that “...I've found it is the small things, everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keeps the darkness at bay. Simple acts of kindness and love...” And in all truth, the wizard is correct in making this statement. People in today’s society should learn from this quote, that it is, in fact, the simple things that are outstanding and make one a true hero. Every day, fire men, police officers, even the everyday worker, get out of bed in the morning and instead of deciding to sleep in or call in sick, they drag themselves from bed and go to work. Although these people do not realize that they are doing very much good by feeding rushed people or stopping fights, they are. They keep this world together. Fast food workers feed other workers and keep them fueled throughout the day, allowing for the workplace to be more productive. The police officers keep people from tearing eachother apart. Firefighters help to reduce grief inflicted upon someone when a fire sprouts and engulfs their home in flames. It is, indeed, the little things that define a hero from the other people of this world who decide to call in sick from work or stay at home and allow Food Stamps to pay for the food they need to
