Romeo and Juliet In the play “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare, Tybalt is responsible for most of the violence and death. This is mainly because of his rage about the family fued between the Montagues and the Capulets. He is a Capulet and he wants to fight or kill Montagues anytime he sees or hears one of them.
Tybalt always kept Romeo’s intrusion in the back of his mind, until one day when he decided to act upon it. “Turn and draw” (3.1.38), he tells Romeo. Romeo being a wise young man doesn’t fight him. Tybalt has to take his rage out on someone, so he decides to fight and kill Mercutio. Romeo then kills Tybalt and gets banished.

Before the death of Tybalt, Romeo wasn't really thinking straight because one of his good friends was just killed and he wanted to seek revenge. The prince of Verona explains “I amence a fine that you should all repent for the loss of mine”(3.1.207-208). The prince is basically clarifying that because Tybalt killed Mercutio, Romeo shall not be executed, but exiled.
The second character responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death is Romeo himself. Romeo is responsible for Juliet and his death because he makes rash decisions without thinking things through. At the beginning of Act Ⅲ, Mercutio and Tybalt get into a fight and Mercutio dies. Romeo avenge Mercutio's death by slaining Tybalt. The Prince of Verona has a rule that whoever kills or starts the fight, they will receive punishment.
The people to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s death is nobody else, but themselves. In the play Romeo and Juliet made idiotic and impulsive choices, which led to their tragic death. One example is when the play, Romeo and Juliet states, “This fight will decide who dies. They fight. Tybalt dies.”
