With this new regulation come new laws that HCD must comply. There are also ramifications to the legality of this new regulation. Below are some of the implications on the legal environment for HCD: Unionization: A labor union is an organization of workers joined to protect their common interests and improve their working conditions. It serves as an intermediary between the employer and the employees (Work Place Fairness). If the organization or company allows unionization, and because the then used to be managers would now be considered as hourly workers, this means that they too have the right to join the UWA if they choose to join. This means that the UWA would now negotiate their pay and benefits. Companies that choose to increase employees’ salaries would look for ways to make up for the loss they would incur. Tyson Food has increased pay at all their chicken plants. This means that the company has agreed to pay their hourly employees $10 hours, this also means for employees who were making more than that per hour will also benefit from this increase. This change in the starting rate, along with other increases of varying amounts for experienced production, maintenance and refrigeration workers, means the average hourly pay for those who have been on the job for more than a year will be more than $12 an hour. Top hourly production pay in Tyson Foods’ chicken operations exceeds $16 an hour (Tyson Foods, 2015). While this is great for Tyson Foods employees, this also means that the price of chicken at any grocery store would increase.
