As a low-income, first-generation Mexican American/college graduate, my personal identities and experiences uniquely position me to contribute to RFU’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts (DEI). Through my journey, I have encountered various challenges and triumphs that have shaped my perspective and deepened my commitment to promoting DEI in healthcare and beyond. My lived experience growing up in an economically disadvantaged and medically underserved community has heightened my awareness of the healthcare disparities and inequities that exist, especially being raised in a traditional Hispanic household. It has fueled my passion to address these issues and advocate for accessible, culturally sensitive, and equitable healthcare.
There are many positive attributes and assets that I possess. One of them is I am hard working; this will help our FFA chapter because I will venture to make a better and stronger chapter. Another positive attribute is I am reliable; I will strive to be at all of the meetings and activities that the chapter will bestow upon me. Last of all, I am a leader because I am passionate about the things I do while being open minded to the opinions of others. The FFA Chapter has many activities for members to participate in.
In response to the icebreaker questions, I actually think I prefer to answer the academic questions instead. Honestly, I am pondering what possible explanations I could give for several of the questions of choice. A rather grim and queasy looking emoji could easily sum up my disposition at the moment. I have been going over randomized answers for the past few days since I seen this discussion post on Saturday. Had it been some intellectual inquiry of writing knowledge or some insight of the upcoming topics my interest would of been piqued.
I see myself being an engaged member of the WCU and Brinson Honors College community by being involved in community service opportunities, becoming a member of leadership organizations, and taking advantage of opportunities to study and serve in a different country or to participate in undergraduate studies. I plan to be engaged in the WCU community by being involved in all that I can be involved in. Specifically, I hope to become involved in at least one of the faith-based groups on campus, such as the Baptist Student Fellowship at WCU or the Campus Crusade for Christ. Becoming involved in faith-based organizations is important to me and will allow me to love God and love people better by learning more about God and participating in service projects that will share his love and truth. Additionally, I want to join a local Church family, where I hope to serve in various aspects of the Church, especially those that involve children, something that I am passionate about.
Personal Statement- Stephanie Olivera Growing up I was always the odd one in our family. When my parents started having children, they did not plan us very well. I am 5 years younger than my older brother, 4 years younger than my sister and 8 years older than my younger brother. I was the child that did not have anyone to "play" with, and I grew accustomed to being alone.
I am the first of my mother’s children to graduate high school with a GPA of a 3.7. I was top 10 % of my class and now I am the first out of my siblings to college and to graduate
In my family I am not only the oldest child- I am also a first generation student and currently the only person in my immediate family to hold a degree of any kind. I feel incredibly proud of this accomplishment because being a first generation student means having a limited amount of support from family members. Often times I was required to rely on researching the internet or interviewing professionals for answers to my college related questions. This skill was especially useful when I was offered a position at LCC’s five-star, NAEYC accredited center. As an Assistant Teacher, families rely on me for information regarding their child’s development and our center.
By taking this course, I hope to become a more clear and academically advanced writer. Considering that English is such a world dominating language, I believe that achieving a high level of reading and writing is extremely necessary for a beneficial future. Even though I already speak Dutch and French, many first world countries around the globe are increasingly starting to use English as a primary international language, so understanding, writing, and speaking English well is becoming more important for communication. In order to achieve my future goals relating to global communication, I will need to be successful in EWRT 1A, which I can achieve by staying on top of assignments and turning in work that was thoroughly looked over because it will help me improve my academic tone and further elaborate on my ideas. Similarly to some of the students I have met at De Anza, English is not my first language.
Engineering is an essential tool that helps society act as a whole for the purpose of improving the lives of every individual in the most innovative way. To touch the lives of every individual as I could with the career goal that I’m pursuing would be my ultimate goal. As an individual, pursuing Engineering, University Of Texas at San Antonio would be a great assistance for me to attain the necessary knowledge in order to increase my understanding and mastery of the essential subjects necessary to be an Engineer. UTSA provides vast opportunities for individuals like me to expand our abilities and further develop our skills.
From my grandma, I learned how to be patient and persistent. My family I have now isn 't my original family, but I have learned to adapt and transform to my surroundings. The rest of my family has made a huge contribution to who I am today. I am looking at this college because i feel like i have the characteristics to enhance your program and contribute to the everyday
Growing up in an upper class family, money was something that I was not familiar with. Everything I needed was paid for, from my tuition and living expenses to my daily spendings. However, not only until I entered high school, where I had exposures to subjects such as pre-calculus and economics, that it changed my way of thinking about money. Learning about stock markets, tradings, banks and consumer needs had piqued my interest in the financing field. It was the turning point where I decided the path of my future career.
It was important for me to continue my education, especially in this field as it has always been a dream of mine. In my family neither of my parents attended college, through the years I have watched them do jobs they hated so me and my siblings could be successful. As I got older my brother attended college, be prospered and graduated in four years. He now has a steady job and
I was determined to get perfect grades and accepted to college, get a degree, and help my family with it. I never want my kids to face the plight that I did. I picture the look on my mothers face, tears rolling down her freckled face, when I tell her that she doesn't have to worry about money anymore. That I can take care of her
Thanks to my father, I grew up with a passion for sports. Him working as a consultant for the Olympic Games gave my family the opportunity to travel and discover new countries such as Australia, Greece and China, but also experience the unique atmosphere of the Olympic Games. As I became older, my admiration for major sports figures and leaders grew, until came the realization: why not give myself the opportunity to become part of that world? For personal reasons, I had decided to put myself to the test and try something completely new instead when I was asked after obtaining my IB diploma to make a decision concerning my future. I was afraid I would be choosing the easy route if I ventured deeper into the sports field, as it was a world
Aspiring to grow further and dedicated to my personal development, I am inspired by my family core values to
