Greek mythology has had many great heroes, such as Ulysses and Perseus. In a comparison between the two, Ulysses better fits the term ‘hero’ than Perseus. Ulysses is a leader of men, he is extremely intelligent and clever, and he has overcome many more challenges than Perseus has. As a leader goes, Ulysses fits the role much more than Perseus does. Ulysses demonstrates his leadership so much more than Perseus. When Ulysses and his men are trapped in a cave with a dangerous cyclops, he takes precautions and acts likes a true leader. He almost single-handedly gets the crew out of the situation by tricking the cyclops. Ulysses thinks ahead of time, and he realizes that if he acts quickly without thinking, him and his whole crew will die. When Ulysses is at sea, and he hears the sirens. He knows he needs to act properly. He forces his men to tie him down, so he does not let his curiosity get the best of him. Ulysses is smart, because if he was not tied down he would have gone off with a siren, and that would have thrown off his entire journey. Perseus is smart to use his shield to not see Medusa, but Ulysses is clearly the smarter individual. Ulysses also shows his intelligence when he encounters the cyclops. Ulysses tells the cyclops that his name is Nobody, which is truly genius. Ulysses knows that he will scream for help when he stabs him, but all the cyclops will say is that Nobody is hurting him. If Ulysses had said his name was anything else besides Nobody, he and his crew would have all been killed. A hero needs to have brains, and they can not rely on their physical attributes all the time. Ulysses shows here that he can act on the spot. While Ulysses is extremely clever, he has also overcome multiple challenges that he was faced
