Sectionalism, as we learned, is a loyalty or support of a particular region or section of the nation, rather than the U.S. as a whole. Slavery being a particular sectional issue, which divided Americans North and South, that it led to the American Civil War. One example of something that is symbolic of this sectionalism is Harriet Beecher Stowe’s novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Stowe’s portrayal of the slave South infuriated Southerners, and it alienated Northerners as well (D2L).
