However, neither party would back down from their cause of either fighting for the preservation of slavery, or abolishing it, and thus becoming one of the main reasons the Civil War came to be. The Major Abolitionists were mostly made up of Northerners, who felt extremely passionate towards helping the slaves get their deserved freedom. Against the will and demand of the South, these abolitionists took part in rebellions against slavery through means of literature, including Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe and The Impending Crisis of the South by Hinton Rowan Helper. Uncle Tom’s Cabin was stylistically written to appeal to the emotions of the people and make them realize the evils that Southern citizens were inflicting on the slaves, and persuading them to become abolitionists. “ To millions of people, it made slavery appear almost as evil as it really was” (Kennedy 396).

To answer the essay question I would say I agree with Abraham Lincoln’s comment upon meeting Harriet Beecher Stowe during the American Civil War that she was “the little woman who wrote the book that started this great war?”. The book in my opinion helped create great social change. In the book it allows us as readers to imagine horrible visions of all the struggles slaves endured other than just the beatings, it is very hard to not feel bad for the slaves. I feel the book was successful mostly because it made she made an emotional impact and put faces to the slave in the readers mind. Using the character of George Harris, Stowe gives actual views of slave she also brought to view the inhuman break down of families of the whole business of slavery.

There were many different books that were published around the time of slavery like Uncle Tom’s Cabin.
Sectionalism, as we learned, is a loyalty or support of a particular region or section of the nation, rather than the U.S. as a whole. Slavery being a particular sectional issue, which divided Americans North and South, that it led to the American Civil War. One example of something that is symbolic of this sectionalism is Harriet Beecher Stowe’s novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Stowe’s portrayal of the slave South infuriated Southerners, and it alienated Northerners as well (D2L). As this was the Northerners’ first look at the South’s peculiar institution, and they didn’t like it (D2L).

The Divisive Effect Uncle Tom’s Cabin written by Harriet Beecher Stowe is a novel made to portray the injustice and brutality of slavery, how it affected the enslaved people, and how life was for African Americans at the time. Uncle Tom’s Cabin affected millions of people in the South and gave a voice to people that didn’t have one. The definition of slavery is a system that treats a person as if he were an object, which is also what abortion can be defined as. Abortion has several similarities to slavery including the dehumanizing language used to describe slaves and unborn babies, causing them to be seen as objects, and their lack of rights and choice, the divisive effect slavery and abortion have had in politics and society. Mr. Shelby, as the swinger on the slavery, caused the tragic ending of Tom indirectly. He represented the most people who had no idea on the slavery problems before the war. Mr. St. Clare, portrayed as the protector of the slaves, failed to help Tom out of the dilemma, implied the complicate situation before the Civil War: few people would like to support the abolitionism. The Renaissance marked one of the greatest transitions from one time period to another. Known as the rebirth of classical literature and ideas, the Renaissance argued against most of the beliefs from the Middle Ages. Two of the most important ideas derived from the Renaissance were secularism and humanism. Both of the ideas emphasized the importance and abilities of humans. Out of these beliefs came new views and perceptions which set the foundation for the development of the Renaissance.
The eighteenth century was filled with wars and strife to the extent that men began to have apprehension about philosophical problems of existence, death, and eternity. Due to this upheaval, literary style progressed from Classicism and Neoclassicism to what became known as Romanticism. Romanticism was a literary movement that focused on emotions, imagination and symbolism. The romantic style was designed to evoke a reader’s sympathy and emotion for the protagonist and their passions or inner struggles.
