The passages in the Bible have survived for hundreds of years and the historical context of the bible will aid in the overall understanding of the Bible. The Bible spans a significant period of centuries and a large breadth of information. As you read any novel or document, knowing background information brings an overall better interpretation of the text. Knowing the historical context of any document is important in order to more accurately comprehend the text. In high school, before reading Shakespeare, my class underwent a study to learn more about Shakespeare and his time. We learned more about Elizabethan and Jacobean England and the history of English literature. My teacher also taught us about the background of Shakespeare himself.
