Understanding The Science Of Meteorology

661 Words3 Pages

Meteorology is the study of the atmosphere and the atmospheric phenomena, atmospheric effects on Earth's weather. The atmosphere has a layer of gas that protects the planet, The Earth's atmosphere is a very thin layer of gases that surrounds the Earth. It is made up of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 0.9% argon and 0.03% that is carbon dioxide. (Cool Cosmos 2013) This thin layer surrounds the Earth from keeping the heat inside the atmosphere and it also blocks the Earth from much of the Sun’s in coming ultraviolet radiation so then people do not get too much exposure. Too much exposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays can causes skin and eye damage, sunburn, tanning and result in skin cancer.

The Earth's atmosphere is around 300 miles around the Earth, but most of the atmosphere is within 10 miles of the surface of the Earth. There is no specific place where the atmosphere ends so it just keeps …show more content…

Meteorological phenomena, which is a weather event that can be explained by meteorology, the events can include acid rain, Air mass or an Anticyclone. are observable weather events which illuminate and are explained by the science of meteorology. Those events are bound by the variables that exist in Earth's atmosphere.
They are temperature, pressure, water vapor, and the gradients and interactions of each variable, and how they change in time (ScienceDaily, Meteorology 2016). A meteorologist's job is to use scientific equipment to observe the forecast and the earth's atmospheric phenomena. The atmosphere affects the earth and life on the planet. This kind of education is required if a person has completed their bachelor's or higher degree from a college or university. Many meteorologists have degrees in physics, chemistry, mathematics, and other fields (What Is a Meteorologist?,
