The Growing Problem of Unregulated Food in the U.S.
Unhealthy food is a growing problem in the U.S. The situation only worsens with today’s food choices and options. Unhealthy food causes obesity and sugar addiction, problems that nobody wants to live with.
Obesity in America Obesity is one thing that falls in the “less desirable,” category, a prominent problem for the U.S. To begin with, unhealthy foods have an abundance of fats, including trans fats. To much of of these fats, especially trans fats, can lead to an unhealthy lifestyle of high cholesterol and obesity, which can lead to more severe conditions like heart attacks and diabetes. For this reason, the fats found in these foods can lead to unhealthy conditions and greater problems down the road. In addition, large portions of these foods can make a healthy lifestyle hard to come by. For example, large portions of unhealthy, or any type, of food can make it hard to regulate weight because so many calories are taken in a one time. To begin, sugar is eaten much more frequently, in the 21st century than it was 40 years ago. According to Time For Kids magazine, “...[people] eat 50% more sugar than they did in the 1970’s.” This dramatic increase in sugar consumption undeniably proves the new found sugar addictions. Also, sugar is now eaten in unnecessary amounts in unnecessary foods. Foods like canned fruit, that once only had natural sugars, are now chocked full of artificial syrups and put into Jello. This is undeniable proof that foods that were once healthy are now artificially altered to accommodate and feed our addictions of sugar. To sum up, sugar, which once was only an occasional treat, has turned into an unhealthy addiction that should be controlled so there are no further
